Budinoff: More women wanted in engineering
SIE assistant professor Hannah Budinoff was recently highlighted by InMaricopa magazine, where she spoke about the growing desire for women in STEM fields, particularly engineering.
Budinoff attended an all-girls school in Phoenix, and says that experience helped her gain confidence to face the challenges of an engineering education. She said she gradually developed an interest in science and math in high school, and then went on to earn her bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Arizona.
Her undergraduate experience included internships that led to a full-time position with Honeywell. While she found the job fit her personality, she felt she could accomplish more as an engineering professor. Returning to graduate school, she received her doctorate in mechanical engineering from the University of California, Berkeley. She joined the In addition to her teaching duties, Budinoff’s research focuses on solving problems in design and manufacturing.
Budinoff says she believes the engineering field offers a wealth of opportunities for young women, and that engineering is not only an exciting creative field, but is currently making attempts at diversity. She hopes that as a professor, she can contribute to growing the numbers of women finding real success in the profession.
