About SIE

Powerful Agents for Change

University of Arizona systems and industrial engineers are guiding development of some of the most complex systems known to humankind.

From modeling human response to natural disasters and creating connected vehicle technology to developing ways to manage space traffic, researchers have achieved international prestige since SIE was founded in 1961.

UA systems and industrial engineering, the nation’s first academic systems engineering program, offers BS, MS and PhD degrees in systems engineering and industrial engineering, alongside a BS in integrated business and engineering jointly administered with the Eller College of Management. The programs prepare students for success with some of the world’s top research institutions and at companies ranging from Raytheon to Walt Disney.

The SIE Student Experience

A Place for Everyone

While at the University of Arizona, master's student Ben Thornton spread his time between learning engineering essentials and rising through the ranks of the Men’s Wheelchair Basketball team.

"Right off the bat, I knew there was a community here."

Community in the Class

Josh Nau, who plans to work as a project engineer at SteelFab, says that working with fellow engineering students is a highlight of his education.

"My time in SIE has been especially rewarding because of all the people and connections I have made along the way, which have helped me in the continuation of my career."
