Faculty Celebrated at Patent Luncheon
Faculty from the College of Engineering were responsible for more than 20% of the University of Arizona's patents over the past year. Tech Launch Arizona and the College celebrate their groundbreaking engineers every year at the Patent Luncheon, which marks breakthroughs in healthcare, energy storage, and computer chips.
“It speaks to the college, that we are drivers of an economic engine,” said David W. Hahn, the Craig M. Berge dean of the College of Engineering. “These technologies go into the world and create spinout companies and enrich the economy.”
SIE assistant professor Mohammed Shafae earned a patent medallion for his work on Sensor Signal Prediction at Unreported Frequencies. His research focuses on developing data analytics methods and improved security measures for smart manufacturing systems, which are becoming increasing integrated via the “internet of things.”
An award was also given to former SIE department head Young-Jun Son for Simulation-Based Resource and Layout Optimization.
