This year's U.S. News STEM Solutions National Leadership Conference will feature a familiar face: associate professor Ricardo Valerdi.

Now in its sixth year, the three-day conference welcomes leaders, educators and top policy makers from business, academia and government to debate current STEM-related issues and discuss "practical, self-sustaining strategies for inspiring, educating and hiring the diverse STEM workforce of tomorrow." This year's keynote speakers include executives from NASA, Dow Chemical Co. and Xerox Corp.

Valerdi, whose Science of Sport program is oft-featured in news, will co-host "Batter Up: The Science of Sports," a presentation on several initiatives underway by sports leagues and educational institutions to integrate science and sports, inside and outside the classroom.

The conference takes place May 24-26 in San Diego.
