Acting Dean and SIE Professor Larry Head Advances Connected Vehicle Technology

Larry Head has spent his career researching vehicle-to-vehicle communication. For the last eight years, he’s been staging field tests in Anthem, Arizona to optimize the traffic flow of intersections. Using algorithms based on years of research, he and his fellow researchers are improving the efficiency of emergency and road crew vehicles in traffic, increasing safety for pedestrians and making the road a safer place.

“We have technology that really can save lives, reduce cashes and reduce property-damage costs,” Head said. “It’s the most exciting groundswell I’ve seen in transportation in 30 years.”
