The University of Arizona has been officially accepted as a collaborating partner and pre-approved subcontractor with the Systems Engineering Research Center (SERC). The College of Engineering played a pivotal role in securing the partnership, leveraging its expertise and leadership in systems engineering.

Established in 2008, SERC serves as a University Affiliated Research Center for the Department of Defense. With this new partnership, the UA strengthens its role in advancing research and innovation to tackle critical national security challenges.

SERC is a consortium of over 20 prominent research institutions across the United States, dedicated to addressing complex issues in systems engineering. The center’s mission is to develop innovative, practical solutions to enhance the DOD’s capabilities in areas such as national defense, cybersecurity and artificial intelligence.

SERC conducts independent research and development, integrating efforts across various domains such as model-based systems engineering and human capital development. The Department of Systems and Industrial Engineering will contribute expertise to these research areas, further enhancing the university’s position as a leader in systems engineering.

The university will also contribute to SERC’s Acquisition Innovation Research Center (AIRC), launched in 2020. AIRC engages with academia to drive research aimed at improving defense acquisition processes and policies.
