The University of Arizona announced in August the offering of a combined engineering and business undergraduate degree. The Integrated Business Engineering Degree was developed by the College of Engineering and the Eller College of Management to bolster the growing demand for graduates with technical expertise and business acumen.
“We need leaders who can translate technical expertise into real-world solutions,” said David W. Hahn, Craig M. Berge Dean of the College of Engineering. “This program is about teaching students to understand engineering systems and the business strategies that bring them to life.”
The program is the only one of its kind in Arizona. It will provide students with hands-on learning experiences through industry and community projects, and foster collaboration in a close-knit environment. Students will be able to pursue fields like management science, engineering design, project management and business analytics, entrepreneurship and product development.
Program director Michael Kwinn said the curriculum is built to increase a student’s job prospects after graduation.
“Our students will work on real-world projects from the very beginning,” said Kwinn, professor of practice in SIE.
“They're going to be working with significant clients throughout their four years, getting exposure and opportunities.”
