Alum Elected to Tau Beta Pi Council
Marla Peterson, who graduated with a systems engineering degree in 1983, was recently elected to the executive council of engineering honor society Tau Beta Pi. Peterson currently works as a senior technical manager for continuous improvement at Honeywell. During her time at the University of Arizona, she served as AZ Alpha Chapter vice president for two years.
Peterson has dedicated much of her career to supporting women in engineering. This includes being a founding member of the Engineering and Technology Diversity Council and Women in Honeywell network.
“We’ve had many cases where if we hadn’t had an inclusive team, we wouldn’t have gotten where we are today,” she said. “Inclusivity really does provide a lot of benefits other than just abstract diversity of thought. It also helps in our business with selling, and where we sell our products. How you think about different cultures and different people plays into marketing as well.”
In 2019, Peterson was named as the SIE Alumna of the Year.
