The University of Arizona student chapter of the American Society for Engineering Management and the Mary and Felipe M. Rodriguez Integrated Business and Engineering program will host retired Army Brig. Gen. Ricardo O. Morales for a distinguished speaker event.
Morales, a Brown University professor with more than 30 years of military and leadership experience, will discuss navigating complex organizations and decision-making at the highest levels of government and industry.
With a BS in aerospace engineering from West Point, an MBA from Yale, and a doctorate in engineering from the University of Cambridge, Morales also earned graduate degrees in strategic studies from the Naval College of Command and Staff and in strategy from the National Defense University. As a senior executive fellow, he studied systems dynamics and organizational learning at MIT and Harvard Kennedy School of Government.
Morales is a retired brigadier general and Purple Heart recipient. He served globally, leading in five hostile fire zones, in roles ranging from leading a tank platoon in the Gulf War to duty in the Executive Office of the President. He commanded U.N. peacekeepers in the Balkans, led an Army task force arrayed across one-third of Baghdad, was an aide to the head of NASA, a White House fellow at the Office of Management and Budget, and led a national presidential initiative to revolutionize how the country supports transitioning military members and their families. He later commanded an Army ROTC brigade responsible for officer development at 97 universities, chaired the Department of Systems Engineering at the U.S. Military Academy and researched in collaboration with the Department of Defense, industry, the public sector and leading think tanks. Morales is a graduate of parachute, air assault, scout, armor basic, infantry advanced, U.S. Air Force air/ground operations, Department of Defense, NATO and joint courses.
