Abstract: In this seminar, Laura McGill, Deputy Laboratories Director and Chief Technology Officer at Sandia National Laboratories, will share the research and engineering development work being conducted at the Department of Energy's premier engineering national laboratory. She will put this in the context of Sandia's portfolio of programs that serve several missions in national security space. Discussion will include the opportunities available to scientists and engineers in both research and product development.

Bio: Laura McGill is Deputy Laboratories Director for Nuclear Deterrence and the Chief Technology Officer at Sandia National Laboratories. Prior to joining Sandia in 2021, she was deputy vice president of engineering at Raytheon Missiles & Defense, a $15B business of Raytheon Technologies. She previously served as vice president of engineering at Raytheon Missile Systems, leading all aspects of technical development and execution. She was product line chief engineer for Air Warfare Systems (2007-2011), responsible for all engineering activities and technical performance of a $2B portfolio of Air-to-Air Missiles, Precision-Strike Air-to-Ground Weapons, and Cruise Missiles, and previously chief engineer of Tomahawk Cruise Missiles.  She has taught graduate courses in systems engineering for Johns Hopkins Whiting School of Engineering. She is a Lifetime Fellow of the AIAA and the immediate past-president.  She was inducted into the National Academy of Engineering in 2019, for which she currently serves on the Air Force Studies Board.
